Police have arrested a 31-year-old man over an alleged gangland shooting at a kebab shop in Auburn, western Sydney, in June 2025. The man was arrested during a raid at a Narwee home on Friday, 28 August 2026, and taken to Campsie Police Station.
Police allege two masked gunmen entered the Auburn shop and opened fire, targeting underworld figure Samimjan Azari. Azari was shot in the shoulder, while his 25-year-old associate Kali Taiseni was shot in the face and a 47-year-old female shop worker was also wounded. Police say Taiseni is expected to suffer long-term injuries.
Investigators allege the attackers escaped in an Audi Q7 using cloned number plates. A burnt-out vehicle believed to have been used in the attack was later located in Greystanes. Police described the investigation as lengthy and complex, and the arrested man is expected to face serious charges, including allegations related to shooting with intent to murder and firearm offences.
The shooting was reportedly the fourth attempt on Azari’s life amid violent conflict following a split within the Alameddine organised-crime network in western Sydney. Taskforce Falcon and the Raptor Squad have been investigating the violence.
