Discussion Meeting of Australia BNP on the Occasion of Independence Day

Under the initiative of Australia BNP, an Iftar and prayer gathering, along with the annual general meeting, was held on the occasion of the Great Independence Day and the holy month of Ramadan. The event commenced with a recitation from the Holy Quran.

In his address as the esteemed guest, David Shoebridge, Senator of New South Wales and former MP of Australia, said, “I still remember how young students stood bravely against the autocratic rulers. Bangladesh’s struggle for the restoration of democracy is unique in history. However, in recent times, we see that democracy is in crisis. There is no specific election schedule, which is concerning. To ensure a free and fair election in Bangladesh, it is essential to announce an election timeframe without delay. Australia wants to see a democratic and transparent election in Bangladesh.”

The chief guest of the event, BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, stated, “There is no way to deny the contribution of martyred President Ziaur Rahman to Bangladesh’s independence. He was not only the proclaimer of independence but also led on the battlefield. He was the pioneer of multi-party democracy in Bangladesh. However, it is unfortunate that even after removing the fascist Hasina from power, there are still various delays and excuses regarding the elections. There is no alternative to elections for restoring the democratic system.”

Abigail Boyd MP, a member of the Australian Greens Party in the New South Wales Parliament, said, “We will raise our voice in the Australian Parliament for the restoration of democracy in Bangladesh. There is no alternative to free and fair elections in a democratic country.”

BNP Central Executive Committee’s International Affairs Secretary, Rashedul Haque, remarked, “Ziaur Rahman was not just a freedom fighter; he was the architect of modern Bangladesh. It is our duty to follow the path he showed in the struggle for democracy and people’s rights.”

Mohammad Haider Ali, General Secretary of Australia BNP, said, “Ziaur Rahman was the outcome of the Liberation War and the Sepoy-People’s Revolution. He is not only a leader of BNP but has a place in the hearts of all Bangladeshis. His honesty and patriotism continue to inspire us.”

In his presidential address, Australia BNP President AFM Tawhidul Islam (joining virtually) stated, “Martyred President Ziaur Rahman was a devout Muslim. He planted neem trees in the plains of Arafat, which still provide shade to pilgrims today. We pray for the forgiveness of his soul and seek Allah’s blessings for Bangladesh.”
