A Perth mother has been charged over a devastating road crash that claimed the life of her four-year-old daughter in Western Australia.
Police allege 33-year-old Saoirse Wynne was driving a hatchback when it collided with an orange Ford Mustang at the intersection of Garden Street and Boardman Road in Canning Vale, in Perth’s south, on June 3.
Her four-year-old daughter, Layna Leavy, was critically injured in the collision and later died. Authorities allege the child had not been properly secured in the vehicle before the crash.
Following an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision, the 33-year-old mother has now been charged with multiple offences, including careless driving causing death.
The case is expected to proceed through the Western Australian court system, where the allegations will be tested.
The tragedy is another heartbreaking reminder of the importance of child restraints and road safety, particularly when travelling with young children.
