Two pedestrians fight for life in Lakemba crash, Sydney’s southwest

Dramatic CCTV captured the horrific moment they were crossing with other pedestrians when they were hit.

Two pedestrians are fighting for their lives after they were struck by a car in Sydney’s southwest.

Emergency services were called to The Boulevarde in Lakemba about 1pm on Tuesday following reports of the crash.

CCTV footage appears to show a white Toyota Tarago striking the two pedestrians before crashing into two cars on the opposite side of the road.

Another two pedestrians can be seen escaping the collision by centimetres.

A woman, believed to be in her 30s, was treated at the scene before being taken to Liverpool Hospital in a critical condition.

A man, believed to be in his 60s, was also taken to hospital in a critical condition, arriving at St George Hospital.

The driver, an 82-year-old man, was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital for mandatory testing and further assessment.

A witness told the Tarago appeared to run a red light before crashing into the pedestrians.

Another witness said the woman was unresponsive after the crash.

“Her ears were bleeding and [so was] her nose, and she was not talking,” she said.

The husband of a woman whose car was struck while stopped at a red light said she had been left deeply shaken.

“She just told me she had a big accident. It’s really bad. She’s very traumatised. She’s very scared,” he said.

“I came all the way from home to be with her, and then I saw this.”
