Sydney, 27 June: To celebrate the 78th anniversary of the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB), the IEB Overseas Chapter Australia hosted a vibrant “Meet & Greet Gala Night” at the Orion Function Centre in Campsie, Sydney. The event brought together Bangladeshi engineers from across Australia, creating a lively platform for professional networking, collaboration, and community engagement.
The Consul General of Bangladesh in Sydney, Mr. Shelley Salehin, attended the event as the Chief Guest. In his address, he praised the remarkable achievements of Bangladeshi engineers in Australia and highlighted their growing contributions to engineering and innovation. He commended the initiative of the IEB Overseas Chapter Australia and encouraged expatriate engineers to utilise their knowledge, expertise, and professional experience more effectively in support of Bangladesh’s future development.
The program featured speeches by the leaders of IEB Overseas Chapter Australia, engineers representing different Australian states, and representatives from various corporate organisations, including the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Speakers emphasised the importance of expanding professional networks, promoting innovation, facilitating knowledge exchange, and building a stronger platform for future generations of Bangladeshi engineers living abroad.
One of the major highlights of the evening was the participation of a delegation from the School of Engineering, University of Wollongong. The delegation presented a forward-looking proposal for potential collaboration between Australia and Bangladesh in the areas of renewable energy, engineering research, technology transfer, and higher education, generating significant interest among the attending professionals.
The event was successfully organised under the overall supervision and coordination of General Secretary Md. Moshiur Rahman Munna and Executive Member Sohel Iqbal of the IEB Overseas Chapter Australia. The formal proceedings were professionally hosted by Shafik Shuvo, while Mohammad Yusuf captivated the audience with his engaging presentation.
Following the official program, guests enjoyed an entertaining cultural segment featuring recitation, solo and group musical performances, dance, and a live band. A gala dinner was served, followed by an exciting raffle draw, adding to the festive atmosphere of the evening.
In his closing remarks, Chairman Md. Abdus Sukur Khan expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all guests, sponsors, supporters, volunteers, and organising committee members for their valuable contributions.
