Sydney Report: On Sunday, 12/11/2023, at 5:30 PM, a prayer and discussion meeting was held at the Lakemba Public Library Auditorium in Australia, organized by the Australia Branch of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to commemorate the historic November 7 Soldiers and People’s Revolution and Solidarity Day. The program also included prayers for the recovery of the “Mother of Democracy,” three-time former Prime Minister of Bangladesh and BNP Chairperson, Begum Khaleda Zia, as well as for the downfall of the fascist Hasina government, the success of the ongoing single-point movement, and blessings for those who have become martyrs.

The event was presided over by Mr. A.F.M. Tawhidul Islam, Convenor of the Program Implementation Committee for Revolution and Solidarity Day, and conducted by Mohammed Haider Ali, the former central leader of BNP’s student wing. The program began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by young Hafiz Tawhidul Islam, followed by the national anthem of Bangladesh and the party anthem of the BNP.

In his address, Mr. A.F.M. Tawhidul Islam congratulated all leaders present and thanked the sub-committee members for their hard work and dedication. He also expressed gratitude to those who provided financial and moral support, inviting all guests to join for dinner.

The welcome speech and prayer were delivered by former professor and BNP Australia leader A.K.M. Manjurul Haque Alamgir, who shared significant insights on the background and significance of November 7. He prayed for the martyrs, for Begum Khaleda Zia’s health, and for the success of those fighting to restore justice and democracy.

The event featured a virtual address from Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Joint Secretary General of BNP’s National Executive Committee, who highlighted the revolutionary legacy of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, a leader who fought for freedom, nationalism, democracy, and social justice. He noted that Ziaur Rahman’s vision for a strong and independent Bangladesh was disrupted by domestic and international conspirators who ultimately led to his assassination. Khokon commended Khaleda Zia for upholding the November 7 spirit and criticized the current fascist government, led by Hasina, for undermining democratic values and turning Bangladesh into a dysfunctional state. He urged BNP leaders abroad to continue the struggle for democracy under Tarique Rahman’s leadership.

Australian Green Party Senator David Shoebridge joined via video message, calling on the Hasina government to uphold democracy, human rights, and justice in Bangladesh, and appealed to democratic leaders worldwide to support Bangladesh’s ongoing peaceful movement.

In his remarks, Mohammad Rashedul Haque, BNP’s Assistant International Affairs Secretary, expressed hope that the democracy-loving people of Bangladesh would soon overthrow the fascist Hasina regime through struggle, leading to the release of Begum Khaleda Zia. He conveyed salutations from BNP’s acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, urging BNP leaders in Australia to work unitedly.

Special guest Ami Ferdous, International Affairs Secretary (Joint) of BNP’s Volunteer Wing, called on leaders of all affiliate organizations to work together to support future programs with BNP Australia in the effort to remove the “vote-stealing” Hasina government.

Another notable speaker, Faruq Ahmed Khan, founding General Secretary of BNP Australia, thanked the veteran and young leaders for their dedication and expressed his hope that all BNP members would join the movement with unity.

Local leaders in attendance included Monirul Haque George, former President of BNP Australia; Humayun Chowdhury Rana, former President of Zia Parishad Australia; Mosleh Uddin Hawladar Arif, former Joint Convenor of BNP Australia; and Mohammad Ruhul Amin, former student leader of Dhaka University, among others.
