The 47th Founding Anniversary of BNP Celebration in Australia

Yesterday, Sunday, at the Lakemba Library Hall in Sydney, Australia, the 47th founding anniversary of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was celebrated in a colorful manner. The event was presided over by AFM Towhidul Islam, President of BNP Australia, and conducted by Engineer Moshiur Rahman Munna, Shofiul Alam Shifak, and Abida Sultana.

As the Chief Guest, BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury joined virtually and sought the cooperation of Australian Senators and Members of Parliament in rebuilding Bangladesh after the upcoming election.

The Special Guest at the program was Mohammad Rashedul Haque, International Affairs Secretary of BNP’s National Executive Committee. The program began with a prayer led by Monzurul Haque Alamgir, Treasurer of BNP Australia. The welcome speech was delivered by Selim Lokiat, Convener of the Celebration Committee.

In his speech as Chief Guest, Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said: “I extend my greetings and congratulations to all BNP leaders and activists residing in Australia. I thank you sincerely. It is undeniable that you have endured many hardships during the past struggles and movements. Australian Senators and Members of Parliament have played an active role regarding Bangladesh’s overall situation. We have already seen the results of your efforts. I urge you to continue this endeavor.”

Regarding the national election, the BNP Standing Committee Member said: “In the coming days, it is crucial to ensure that the election takes place on time and in the proper manner. If BNP comes to power through this election, the cooperation of Australian Senators and MPs will be vital for us. You must continue your efforts.”

He further added: “You are followers of the ideals of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, the founder of BNP. Despite being abroad, you continue to contribute to the party’s activities in various ways and play a role in the struggle for democracy. This contribution must continue.”

Special Guest Mohammad Rashedul Haque, BNP’s International Affairs Secretary of the National Executive Committee, emphasized resisting conspiracies. He said: “We must remain vigilant and keep our eyes and ears open, because a certain clique is conspiring to prevent elections in Bangladesh. We must give a strong response to such conspiracies by acting from now.”

He also said: “We expect the election to be held in the first week of February. That election must not be disrupted under any circumstances. Those who attempt to obstruct the election will be crushed. Every soldier of Ziaur Rahman is ready and will remain prepared for this.”

Meanwhile, Rashedul Haque shared good news that Bangladeshi expatriates in Australia will be able to vote in the upcoming election. However, the process has not yet been finalized.

He also announced another piece of good news for Bangladeshis: applicants will no longer need to go to Delhi for Australian visa processing. Applications can now be submitted directly from Dhaka, as the process has already started there. He credited BNP Australia for playing a role in making this possible.

AFM Towhidul Islam, President of BNP Australia, expressed hope that Tarique Rahman would become an ideal leader like Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. He said: “I always speak of Ziaur Rahman. We see the reflection of Zia’s ideals in Tarique Rahman. Recently, some images have circulated on social media showing Tarique Rahman’s simple lifestyle. I firmly believe that if he becomes the helmsman of Bangladesh in the future, he will be like his father.”

He further said: “Zia was the embodiment of honesty. Former US President Jimmy Carter praised Zia, saying he was the most popular President of Bangladesh. British records also show that Zia’s honesty and patriotism were unparalleled. This extraordinary gentleman’s party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, has come this far through 47 years of sacrifice, struggle, and tradition. I sincerely thank everyone for this.”

Mohammad Omi Ferdous, Joint International Affairs Secretary of the BNP Volunteer Wing, highlighted BNP’s struggle, heritage, and progress in a brief speech.
