The Bangladesh Nationalist Volunteer Party(Jatiotabadi Swechchasebok Dal), Australia has strongly condemned an incident involving the alleged physical harassment of a Bangladeshi international student in Sydney, expressing deep concern over the matter.
According to reports published in various media outlets and shared on social media, the student was allegedly subjected to physical harassment by a woman leader associated with the Awami League, a political party banned in Bangladesh. The incident has caused significant distress and concern within the Bangladeshi community in Australia.
Speaking on the issue, Mohammad Mostafizur Rahman, Joint Convener (Office) of Bangladesh Nationalist Volunteer Party(Jatiotabadi Swechchasebok Dal), Australia, stated that such acts of violence not only threaten the personal safety and mental wellbeing of international students, but also undermine the dignity and harmony of the Bangladeshi diaspora community in Australia.
The organisation further noted that the accused individual is alleged to have used political influence while residing in Australia and remains active in various social circles. Allegations of intimidation, harassment, and psychological pressure against a student make the issue particularly serious and warrant urgent attention.
In its statement, the organisation emphasised that such behaviour is completely contrary to Australian laws, human rights principles, and the country’s commitment to multicultural harmony. It called for a prompt, impartial, and transparent investigation, and urged that those responsible be held accountable under the law.
The Bangladesh Nationalist Volunteer Party, Australia also appealed to relevant Australian authorities and law enforcement agencies to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of the affected student and to provide necessary legal and humanitarian support.
The organisation reaffirmed its belief that the Bangladeshi community in Australia aspires to live in a peaceful, respectful, and inclusive environment, and stressed that any attempt to disrupt this harmony is unacceptable.
