Stay safe, Victoria

Victoria is facing one of the most severe bushfire threats we’ve seen in years. Multiple large fires are burning across the state, with catastrophic and extreme fire danger warnings in place.

Emergency warnings are active, and in some areas, people have already been told it’s too late to leave and to shelter in place.

To the CFA, emergency services, aerial crews, interstate support teams, wildlife carers, and every volunteer — thank you. Your courage and sacrifice in these brutal conditions — extreme heat, dry fuels, strong winds, and unpredictable fire behavior — are nothing short of heroic.

This fire season is being compared to some of the worst in our history. The Black Saturday bushfires burned nearly 1.1 million acres, and current conditions are pushing us toward the most dangerous fire risk since Black Summer.

Many communities are preparing for possible wind changes, knowing just how quickly fires can shift direction and intensity. Please remember — it is never worth risking your life.

If you can safely take your family and pets and leave, do so. Homes and belongings can be replaced; lives cannot. Check in on your neighbors, prepare your animals, and follow all emergency warnings and advice.
