Memorial Prayer Held in Sydney for Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi

A memorial prayer (Ghaibana Janaza) was held in Sydney on 21 December 2025 in memory of Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi, organised by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Australia.

The prayer was conducted by Maulana Muhammad Ferdous Alam, Coordinator of Ulama Foundation Australia and President of the Islamic Culture Propagation Centre.

Earlier on the same day, BNP Australia organised a discussion meeting and prayer programme at the Lakemba Library Hall to mark the 55th Victory Day of Bangladesh. Speakers recalled the contributions of national leaders including former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia and President Ziaur Rahman, and paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War of 1971. Special prayers were also offered for the six Bangladeshi peacekeepers who lost their lives during a United Nations mission in Sudan, as well as for the mother of BNP Australia Senior Secretary Ilias Kanchan Shaheen.

Speaking before the prayer, AFM Tawhidul Islam, President of BNP Australia, described Shaheed Sharif Osman Hadi as a courageous defender of Bangladesh’s independence, sovereignty, and democracy. He prayed for the eternal peace of the martyr’s soul and wished for the speedy recovery of Begum Khaleda Zia.

Expressing deep condolences to the bereaved family, Mohammad Haidar Ali, General Secretary of BNP Australia, stated that Shaheed Hadi’s sacrifice would continue to inspire democratic movements in Bangladesh and beyond. He noted that Hadi was killed shortly after the announcement of the schedule for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, describing the incident as part of a conspiracy to obstruct the democratic process. He further urged the authorities to ensure a peaceful election environment, improve law and order, and guarantee the safety of BNP’s Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman, calling for swift and effective action by the interim administration.

The Ghaibana Janaza was also attended by Mohammad Ferdous Ami, International Affairs Secretary of the Central Committee of Jatiotabadi Swechchasebok Dal; Selim Lokiyat and Mobarak Hossain, Vice Presidents of BNP Australia; Ilias Kanchan Shaheen, Senior Joint Secretary; Samad Shiblu, Joint Secretary; KM Manzurul Haque Alamgir, Treasurer; Shafiul Alam Shafik, Organising Secretary; Rizvi Ahmed, Assistant Organising Secretary; Mostafizur Rahman Labu, Office Secretary; Jahangir Alam, Convener of Jubo Dal; Mashiur Rahman Tuhin, Convener of Swechchasebok Dal; Khaza Dawood Hossain and Murad Hossain, Joint Conveners; Abida Sultana, Women Affairs Secretary; Md Badsha Bulbul, Assistant Office Secretary and Member Secretary of Zia Cyber Force (ZCF) Australia Continental Branch; Mofizul Islam Sagar; Mithu Bepari, Convener of Swechchasebok Dal New South Wales Branch; along with a large number of leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organisations.
