Indian Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal on Friday said that Bangladesh’s request for the extradition of deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina of that country was under examination.
Responding to a question at a media briefing, Jaiswal said that New Delhi had received an extradition request from Bangladesh, adding that the request would be considered in accordance with the applicable legal and judicial processes.
‘Yes, we have received a request for extradition. The request, as we have said earlier as well, is under examination,’ Jaiswal said.
He said that the request was being considered ‘given the legalities that are involved and judicial processes that are involved.’
Asked whether India had received any other extradition request from Bangladesh, Jaiswal said that he could not confirm the matter.
Ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina fled to India on August 5, 2024 in the face of a student-led mass uprising and has since been staying there.
