On June 2nd, Australia BNP and its affiliated organizations organized a prayer (doa mahfil) and discussion meeting at the Lakemba Library auditorium in Sydney to commemorate the 43rd martyrdom anniversary of President Ziaur Rahman. The event was presided over by Acting President of Australia BNP, Mr. Ami Ferdous, and conducted by General Secretary Mr. Mohammad Haider Ali. The chief guest, Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan, member of the National
Standing Committee, delivered his speech virtually. Special guests who attended virtually included senior Standing Committee member Mr. Goyeshwar Chandra Roy, Senior Joint Secretary General Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, and International Affairs Secretary Mr.Rashedul Haque. Over 500 leaders and activists from various states participated in the event.
The program began with a recitation from the Holy Quran by Mr. Md. Elias Hossain. In his speech, Dr. Moyeen Khan discussed the life and ideology of Ziaur Rahman, highlighting his contributions, particularly during the Bangladesh Liberation War and his role in the nation’s development thereafter.
Dr. Khan stated, “Those who now speak in favour of independence were fleeing at that time, while Major Zia declared ‘We Revolt,’ leading the nation towards liberation.” He expressed concern over the current political situation and sharply criticized the policies of the present ruling party.
In his speech, Mr. Goyeshwar Chandra Roy said, “The core principles of the Liberation War in 1971 were to establish democracy, human rights, and the rule of law, which are now trampled upon.” He called for unity to address this crisis.
Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi and Rashedul Haque also recalled Ziaur Rahman’s work and his dedication to the country in their speeches. Rizvi stated, “Shaheed Zia taught us how to run an independent country,” while Haque added, “Australia BNP will do everything necessary internationally to restore democracy and voting rights in the country.”
Further speeches were made by Mr. Ashraful Alam Roni, Organizing Secretary of Australia BNP; Mohammad Faruk Hossain Khan, Member Secretary of Australia Jubo Dal; Md. Zahidur Rahman, Member Secretary of Jatiotabadi Shecchashebok Dol Australia; Faisal Al Mahmud, Executive Member of Australia BNP and organizer of Western Australia BNP; Mahfuzur Rahman, Executive Member of Australia BNP and coordinator of Tasmania BNP; and Arefin Bipul, organizer of Victoria BNP.

The memorial and prayer meeting concluded with a speech by Mr. Omi Ferdous, who thanked everyone for their tireless efforts in making the event successful, followed by the distribution of refreshments.
