Sydney Report: At the initiative of the Bangladesh Community Council Australia, on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 10 AM, a rally, sit-in program, and submission of a memorandum were held in front of the electoral office of the Honorable Prime Minister of Australia, Anthony Albanese, located at 334A Marrickville Road, Marrickville NSW 2204. The event was organized to demand the cancellation of the schedule announced by the submissive Election Commission of the Bangladesh government, the resignation of the fascist Hasina government, and the holding of the upcoming national parliamentary elections under a neutral government or the United Nations. The event was presided over by the President of the Bangladesh Community Council, Mr. Mohammad Rashedul Haque. The chief guest was Member of Parliament and Senator Abigail Boyd from New South Wales. Former Senator Lee Rhiannon was present as a special guest.
Influential Australian Green Party Senator Abigail Boyd has called for the resignation of Sheikh Hasina’s government in her speech, emphasizing the need to ensure democracy, human rights, and justice in Bangladesh. She urged for the next national parliamentary election to be conducted under a non-partisan, neutral caretaker government or under the supervision of the United Nations, ensuring a fair and acceptable election with the participation of all parties.
Former Green Party Senator Lee Rhiannon, in her speech, called on all democratic leaders worldwide to extend their moral support to those fighting for the establishment of democracy in Bangladesh. She also urged the Bangladesh government to immediately release the detained leaders and activists (around 10,000) who have been arrested by law enforcement agencies.
In his speech, President Mohammad Rashedul Haque expressed hope that the democracy-loving people of Bangladesh will soon overthrow the fascist Hasina government through their struggles and establish a government of the people. He stated that Bangladeshis who love democracy, living in Australia and around the world, will continue to work in coordination with their respective governments and the United Nations to support the great movement for restoring endangered democracy in Bangladesh. He also thanked and expressed his sincere gratitude to those who contributed in various ways to make today’s event successful. Additionally, he thanked the various community leaders who attended and encouraged them.
Under the leadership of Mr. Mohammad Rashedul Haque, a delegation including New South Wales Parliament Member Senator Abigail Boyd and former Senator Lee Rhiannon handed over a memorandum to a representative of the Honorable Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. Anthony Albanese, at his electoral office.
The overall supervision of the event was handled by Senior Vice President of the Bangladesh Community Council, Mr.A F M Tawhidul Islam; former central member of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, Mr. Mohammad Haydar Ali; International Affairs Secretary of Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal, Omi Ferdous; and former Secretary of the Bangladesh Community Council, Ashraful Alam Rony. Many people from the Bangladesh community spoke at the event and presented their specific demands. Among the local community leaders present were Mr. Monirul Haque George, Mr. Humayun Chowdhury Rana, Mr. Mahmud, Mr. Mohammad Ruhul Amin, Mr. Sarwar Kamal Chowdhury, Mr. Shaheen Al Karim, Mr. Mosleh Uddin Howlader Arif, Mr. Sohel Mahmud Iqbal, Mr. Barrister Nasirullah, Mr. Mubarak Hossain, Mr. Babul Talukdar, Mr. Zakir Alom Lenin, Mr. Yasir Arafat Sabuj, Mr. Fayzur Rahman Chowdhury, Mr. Tarek Mamun, Mr. Nazrul Islam Nafis, Engineer Kamrul Islam Shamim, Engineer Habibur Rahman, Jahangir Alam, Asadul Haque Babu, Faruk Hossain Khan, Khadija Zaman Rupom, Mojibur Rahman Khaja, Daud Hossain, Mohammad Mostafizur Rhaman, Md Mofijal Islam Sagar, Shariful Shibly, Fakhrul Munna, Hannan Rana, Ariful Islam, Shafiqul Alam Shafik, Md.
