On Sunday, September 1, 2024, at 6 p.m., the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Australia organized an event to celebrate the 46th anniversary of BNP’s legacy, achievements, struggles, and progress. The event, which also aimed to raise funds for flood victims and included a prayer session, was held at the Lakemba Library Auditorium in Australia.
The ceremony was presided over by BNP Australia President A.F.M. Tawhidul Islam, with General Secretary Mohammad Haider Ali as the host. Advocate Abdus Salam Azad, Joint Secretary of the BNP National Executive Committee and Secretary of BNP’s Relief Collection Committee, addressed the gathering virtually as the chief guest. Due to illness, the special guest, Md. Rashedul Haque, BNP’s International Affairs Secretary, could not deliver a speech. Another special guest, Ami Ferdous, BNP Volunteer Wing’s International Affairs Secretary (Joint Secretary rank), also spoke at the event.
Professor Dr. Moniruzzaman delivered a welcome speech, while former Professor K.M. Manjurul Haque Alamgir, BNP Australia’s Treasurer, recited from the Holy Quran and led a prayer to start the program. Following this, the national anthem and BNP party song were performed by JASAS Australia leader Azizun Nahar Mala and her team.
BNP representatives from various Australian provinces participated virtually, including Kamal Hossain (Western Australia), Dr. Muhammad Shahbuddin Ahmed (Victoria, Melbourne), and Mahfuzur Rahman (Tasmania).
Among the BNP leaders present were Vice Presidents Ashraful Islam, Faizur Chowdhury, Sarwar Kamal Chowdhury, Nazrul Islam Nafis, Joy Ahmed Sultan, Mohammad Arif Ahmed Khan (via Zoom), Moshiful Azam Bappy (via Zoom), Senior Joint Secretary Ilyas Kanchan Shaheen, Joint Secretaries Yasir Arafat Sabu, Kamrul Islam Shamim, Shafiul Alam Shafiq, Organizational Secretary Ashraful Alam Roni, Deputy Organizational Secretary Gulam Faruqi Nadim, Md. Jasim Chowdhury, Aswadul Haque Babu, Office Secretary Mohammad Mustafizur Rahman, assistant Office Secretary Md Mofijal Islam Sagar, Publicity Secretary Md. Jummon Hossain, International Affairs Secretary Khadija Zaman Rupam, Women’s Affairs Secretary Abida Sultana, Human Rights Secretary Nurul Azim, Labor Affairs Secretary Mizanur Rahman, Training Affairs Secretary Engineer Saiful Islam Bhuiyan, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Abdul Mannan, Religious Affairs Secretary Md. Ilyas, Environment and Climate Affairs Secretary Ahsan Habib, Industry and Commerce Affairs Secretary Waris Mahmud, Social Welfare Secretary Moksed Alam Dipu, Information and Research Secretary Tarek Mamun, Youth BNP Australia Convenor Jahangir Hossain, Secretary Member Faruk Hossain Khan, Volunteer Wing Australia Convenor Moshiur Rahman Tuhin, Secretary Member Zahidur Rahman, and Joint Convenors Khaja Daud and Morad Hossain. Leaders from various BNP wings and allied organizations also attended, with many joining via Zoom from different states.
General Secretary Mohammad Haider Ali made a special appeal for financial assistance for flood victims and, with the support of youth leader Shariful Islam Shibli and K.M. Manjurul Haque, collected cash and commitments from attendees. He expressed regret for not being able to allow all leaders present to speak due to time constraints.
President A.F.M. Tawhidul Islam thanked all the leaders present, mentioning how hard the committee members worked to organize such a meaningful prayer session. Then he invited everybody to take part in the dinner and officially closed the program.
